Professional hair dryer reviews and advice on choosing the best model for your needs.

Woman using hair dryer

For thermal styling, look for a model that is lightweight and offers several heat settings and air flow options.

A cool shot button (the trigger on the front of the handle) is a very nice feature for setting curls or volume styling. AND, cooling the hair down after heat styling closes down the outer layer of the strands. That is the ticket to shiny, healthy looking hair!

Also be sure the model you choose has a removable lint filter and take the time to clean it regularly. This will greatly extend the life of your appliance.

The temperature settings are another important factor when choosing a hair dryer. Look for an appliance with a minimum of 1500 watts, around 1800 watts will work the best. That’ll give you ample power and heat to shape your hair in any way!

Sedu Revolution Professional Hair Dryer (4000i)

This model has ceramic heat coils and uses tourmaline, a fairly recent technology which is fast drying, yet retains moisture levels and natural oils in the hair. The crushed tourmaline particles work similarly to a magnet, emitting negative ions and infrared heat which dry the hair quickly without blasting the health out of it.

BaByliss Pro Ceramix Xtreme Dryer

A terrific, inexpensive powerhouse of a dryer! With 6 heat/speed settings and 2000 watts of power, this model offers versatility for different styling needs. Comes with a directional nozzle to concentrate airflow for better control. A well made dryer with usability features like a rubberized handle for grip, a 9 foot cord… and of course, the all important cool shot button.

The comb and brush attachments make these models a very versatile little bundle. Great choice for soft, natural styling, smoothing frizz, adding body, or relaxing curl. All that in just one tool!

The design is lightweight and the attachments allow for adequate tension to smooth the hair. Besides that, it takes the challenge out of trying to hold a brush in one hand and dryer in the other. Which gives you better control over the hair because you can easily hold and manipulate the section of hair you’re working on with your free hand.

This one from Conair use ion technology which dries hair faster while enhancing shine and reducing frizz in the finished style.

Conair 1875 Watt Dual Voltage Folding Handle Hair Dryer

No need to compromise on your hair needs while traveling. You can get equal performance to your at-home hair dryer with this little powerhouse from Conair! It’s got the important features (high wattage, ionic technology for shine and the cool shot button) in a compact package.

Collapsible Hair Diffuser

This nifty gadget attaches to the nozzle of pretty much any hair dryer. And handily folds down for travel or storage. Use a diffuser when you want to reduce the intensity of the air stream by spreading it out over the surface of your hair. A great tool for drying curly or wavy hair or gently drying hair set in rollers.
